Seaton Hall Green Roof

  • The upper green roof sits on the top of the west wing breezeway of Seaton Hall and provides a full-sun environment for studying green roofs. In the fall of 2007, initial project designs were completed by Dr. Lee Skabelund and in the spring of 2009, a team of six Biological Agricultural engineering students led by Dr. Stacy Hutchinson installed the green roof.

  • The upper green roof at Seaton Hall shows a mix of green, brown, and yellow as the different varieties of grasses and forbs react differently to various environmental conditions. Started in 2007, the green roof project allows students and faculty to study how green roofs change the urban heat island effect and their influence on storm water runoff.

Dr. Skabelund started the green roof project in 2007 and since its inception, it has involved 30 students and 14 faculty from a variety of disciplines.
